Toyota Prius

Toyota Prius - Prius best Yet, but is it enough? Back in 2004, the Toyota Prius earned a spot on the list of our 10Best car. Do not offer one of the virtues of dynamic that usually gets us excited, but the second generation Prius entertain us in different ways by featuring video-game-like efficiency. We were surprised ourselves by finding pleasure in the feathers the throttle to minimize the use of a gasoline engine, so it reached number 50 plus mpg.

Fell the TNGA.

Twelve years later, in a world of cheap gasoline, hypermiling shtick is wearing. With the fourth generation of the iconic hybrid, Toyota now promises an increase in tata-road manners due in part to Toyota's new Global Architecture (TNGA) which supports eco-mobile. Lowering the center of gravity and more sophisticated suspension that aims to improve ride and handling, never a strong suit of the Prius.

The new chassis actually make for better driving hybrids. The rear suspension setup, with a trailing-arm independent torsion-beam axle, replaces the previous, gave a more controlled ride. Impact absorbing with little noise or Reverberation of the structure of the car, although we see that Ban low-rolling-resistance make quite a lot of road noise at high speeds.

The car also turns out to be sharper than the Prius, and the steering wheel — while still numb and uncommunicative — politelyweighted and more accurate than ever before. Our main complaint with the driving experience still feels vague, unexpected from the brake pedal. You would think that Toyota, with more experience in hybrids than other cars, will already know the blend regenerative and friction braking right now. Yet.

Compared to two Eco model we tested earlier this year, is the top-of-the-line Prius touring four filled with equipment such as leather seats, a navigation system, park faux-help, and Toyota's active safety suite (creates a sense of safety P) which includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision-warning and helps keep the lane. It also has larger, 17-inch wheels and tires 215-millimeters wider than the Prius base 15/195 configuration.

But if there are benefits to this upgrade, purely cosmetic. In fact, the Touring model is successful only 0.79 g on the skidpad, the less grip from the Eco 0.84 g. braking Distance Touring also is a little worse, taking 179 feet to stop from 70 mph compared to the Eco 175 feet. Some differences are definitely caused by the differences between Touring Bridgestone Ecopia rubber and tires Dunlop Enasave environments as well as for extra pounds higher 85-trim four Prius touring brings.

Track tests also revealed an acceleration of zero-to-60-mph slower running, with a tour that did 10.5 seconds, 1.1 seconds behind Eco. Like all Priuses before it, the new version does not enjoy being rushed. When you call to urge more urgent, such as when merging onto the highway, 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine drone fun and strain to get up to speed. On at least an electric motor has a decent midrange torque at lower speeds to help get around slower traffic in the city and suburban driving.

Mileage matters.

What about the fuel economy of the Prius, the reason for being? We average 44 mpg for cars with us. In the Eco model, on the contrary, we managed to 47 mpg, make our results comparable to the combined EPA rating: 56 mpg to Eco and 52 mpg for the Prius model more.

Go easy on the car, and 50 mpg is achieved easily around the city and perhaps even at high speeds close to 80-mph — even though the hitting 54 mpg-city seems like it will take the ideal weather (to avoid using the A/C), the right foot soft and tight surveillance of displaying energy flow to maximize time spent in the mode of the EV.

Showing their energy, which can be displayed on either the 4.2-inch screen near the main digital speedometer or 6.1-inch main screen (or both simultaneously), extra handy in this latest Prius because the revised gas-electric drivetrain runs smoother than ever before. You will not see such a car trade from delivery of power between a gasoline engine and electric motor. The new Prius is also running in an electric-only mode more often than we remember from generation to generation (at least in warm temperatures).

Carpooling commuters will also benefit from the Prius interior Packaging is exceptional. As a device for bringing people and things, the Prius. The rear passenger seat enjoys adequate legroom and headroom, seat cushions along with good sculpture. Liftgate opening to reveal a cargo floor is low, flat, and the rear seat 60/40-split folding easy to extend 27 cubic feet cargo crossover-like 66 cubic feet. With the seats down, the Prius easily fits the bike without having to remove the wheels.

Quilted padded front seat is a nice place to spend time. In addition to ergonomic oddities like a fat lever and control hard to reach the seat-heating under the pile Center, Prius function control layout is good. The simple control system of distinguishing climate infotainment, operated by responsive touch screen flanked by volume and tuning knobs.

Despite the low seating position, a large glass area provides clear visibility, at least up front. Split-tailgate window designs and huge pillar C-compromise display back, offset by a standard backup camera and blind spot warning system available.

You may notice that we have not yet mentioned the new Prius polarizing looks. Toyota created the idea that the hybrid should not look like a conventional car, and was all-in with Prius this corner of front and rear fascias and tortured the curve. We are less disturbed by awkward styling than we were when the car debuted, and certain details such as the back of the vertical bars and typical cold light LED. You may have already decided what you think it is.

For we loaded test car $33.708 asking price, some plastic interior — especially white pieces of the trim steering wheel and center console — look and feel cut-rate. But there is plenty of storage space for your phone, keys and other equipment, and materials that will better under-trim two or three Prius models, one of the stickers for less than $30,000.

See for yourself, there are many like about Prius combination of space and efficiency, and powertrain is an impressive technological achievement. This is no doubt the best Prius yet, and it will please fans of efficiency more than ever. But it's not hard to think of a small car we have rather drive, like the new Honda Civic or 10Best winner car Mazda3 and Volkswagen Golf.

Indeed, none of the cars can give you 44 mpg, but each was much more enjoyable and cost thousands of dollars less than a comparable Prius. Despite the increase, the latest version of Toyota's hybrid icon continues to define the niche, while still falling short of the other main alternative on the dynamics.
